We hope for peace in more countries in 2024

Thank you very much for your support of warfair in 2023.

The year 2023 was a tough year for the world, with a long series of new and ongoing wars and conflicts from Myanmar, Yemen, Niger, Burkina Faso, and the DR Congo to Ukraine and Israel/Gaza. The number of armed conflicts has been increasing over the last 10 years. The number of civilian casualties has risen. The number of refugees and displaced persons is historically high.

At warfair, we believe that trade and cooperation with countries affected by war and conflict can make a positive contribution to peace and progress. This is certainly true for the thousands of families who receive income and work from the companies warfair trades with in conflict-affected countries.

Throughout the year, we have been able to tell some of their stories (photos above). From Fie and Hlaing who grow chili in the hard-hit Shan State in Myanmar; Evelyn, Noella, and Zawa who work at Virunga in the DR Congo; Rahmina from Herat Saffron; Konate from Gebana in Burkina Faso; and Freshta, Belgis, and Guzel from Ziba Foods in Afghanistan. You can meet them and many more of the employees behind our products at www.warfair.world. It is not least all their stories that make us keep working hard to do even more.

We have generated a turnover of 1.55 million DKK (excl. VAT) and purchased new products in conflict-affected countries for 0.78 million DKK in 2023. This was less than in 2022. The market for high-quality food products has been challenged after several years of inflation and uncertainty. Several of our large customers have had to hold back.

However, when it comes to our private customers and smaller Danish companies, we have experienced a continued positive increase in sales. Thank you very much for that. And we are still selling more to other European countries, especially Austria. That bodes well for 2024.

In 2023, we have also added a number of new items: Chili from Myanmar, Shakboz almonds, round Kishmish raisins, and Herati glass from Afghanistan, four new chocolates and vanilla from the DR Congo, and several new quality coffees from Yemen, which we have supplied to South Korea. We have freekeh, couscous, and olive oil on the way from Palestine, which we hope to launch in February 2024. And after several years of severe drought in Somalia, we hope to be able to supply good Somali sesame again soon.

Together with our board of directors, we have set an ambitious strategy for the coming years. We hope you will continue to join us and show your support.

Happy New Year! We hope 2024 will be a year of peace and progress in more countries around the world.

Thank you again for shopping for peace
