Coffee, Khawlani from Yemen
- In stock, ready to ship
Khawlani coffee (Lot code KH) has a cupping score of 86.1 and a flavor description with notes of chocolate, cream, malt, and dark sugar (see photo).
The Khawlani coffee comes from two family farms, Jalat Al-Enab and Al-Masa'arah, in Sa'ada in northern Yemen, in one of the areas most affected by the war. Read the blog post: On a coffee journey which describes the first visit to the coffee producers in Sa'ada.
Yemen was the first country in the world to export coffee from the port city of Mocha in the 17th century and produces some of the world's finest and most sought-after coffees.
The coffee trees grow in high, dry, sun-drenched mountains in gullies and on terraces where the sparse water collects. The coffees are natural coffees, grown in microlots where each variety and field are kept separate. No artificial fertilizers or pesticides are used.
Our partner, Yemen Journey, has provided nets stretched on frames for drying and works with the families to improve quality. The import therefore contributes to the development of coffee production in this very remote and poor area.
The coffee is delivered as 200g whole beans, which are omni-roasted according to careful and customized roast profiles by Coffee Friends, so the coffee can be used for both filter and espresso. Stored until delivery in refrigeration at 6 degrees
